The event is part of a series of regular briefings the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP) is delivering for diplomats at permanent missions and delegations in Geneva following digital policy issues. It is an invitation-only event
Our upcoming briefiing will be dedicated to the ongoing 20-year review of the implementation of outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) – the UN process assessing global progress towards an inclusive, people-centred, and development-oriented information society.
As part of the WSIS+20 review, UN member states are negotiating an outcome document to be adopted at the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly in December 2025. A revised draft of the outcome document – Revision 1, expected on 7 November, will form the basis for the next stage of these negotiations.
Our discussions will unpack the main changes in the Revision 1 text (compared to the Zero Draft), covering areas such as digital inclusion, data governance, human rights, the future of the Internet Governance Forum, and the development of the overall WSIS framework. We will also look at the interplay between WSIS+20 and other processes and activities, including those related to the implementation of the Global Digital Compact and relevant Geneva-based digital governance discussions.
